This week the Retune Festival 2020 would have happened. Times of crisis are always a good reason to rethink, restart and experiment. So that's what we want to do.
I have thought a lot about what it means for a festival organisation to move their events online. And I feel that the formats have to change. My main hypothesis is that it makes more sense to break the event into smaller consumable chunks. Compressing a full program into just a few full days totally makes sense when everyone travels there to experience it. When all participants are at home in front of their screens, it is much less likely that they have the commitment to spend several days in front of the computer watching livestreams.
The other thought is: We've all been in video calls too much to make it a worthwhile experience. So when travelling is so complicated and not advisable, we are in a unique position being able to actually go and visit studios, artists and exhibitions in Berlin - and take you with us.
So, what we'll try, starting today, is creating weekly livestreams from exciting places here in the city. Starting with the Moon Garden experience created by flora&faunavisions and in the week after, we'll be guests at Playtronica.
